Start an Assignment How Appraisal Works
01Roles & Independence
Q

What is property insurance appraisal?

A dispute-resolution process built into most property policies for disagreements about what a covered loss is worth — scope, method, quantities, and price. It addresses amount of loss, not coverage. Full walkthrough here →

Q

What does an umpire do?

When the two party-appointed appraisers can't agree, a neutral umpire independently evaluates the disputed items. Agreement by any two of the three panel members produces a binding award on the amount of loss.

Q

Do you work for policyholders or carriers?

Both. Appraiser appointments are accepted from either side — and the answer comes out the same either way, because the duty runs to the supported number, not the appointing party. Umpire work is neutral by definition.

Q

Are you a public adjuster?

No. RiskAxis does not provide public adjusting services, does not negotiate claims on a party's behalf, and does not represent policyholders or carriers in their claims. Every service line is independent and technical.

Q

Can you tell me whether my claim is covered?

No. RiskAxis does not provide legal advice, interpret insurance coverage, or render coverage opinions. Coverage and legal questions belong with qualified coverage counsel, the insurer, or the appropriate licensed insurance professional.

Q

What standards do your findings rely on?

Recognized industry references: ANSI/IICRC standards (S500, S700, S590), Haag roof inspection methodology, and certified Xactimate estimating practice — documented in the file, every time.

02Engagements & Logistics
Q

How fast will I hear back?

Submissions are reviewed within one business day. The conflict check runs first; engagement terms follow in writing.

Q

How does an engagement start?

Three steps: a conflict check on the parties, property, and carrier; a short scope call to confirm the assignment type and materials; then written engagement terms before any work begins. Full protocol here →

Q

Where do you accept assignments?

Engagements are accepted worldwide — on-site travel assignments as well as fully remote work. Service areas →

Q

Do you take remote or desk engagements?

Yes. Estimate preparation and review, litigation support, protocol consulting, and document-based file review are regularly delivered remotely. Inspections, appraisals, and panel work are handled on-site as travel assignments.

Q

What does it cost?

Fees depend on the assignment type and scope. A written fee schedule is provided with the engagement terms before any work begins — no surprises mid-file.

Q

Do you work in Spanish?

Yes — every service is available in English and Spanish, including inspections, reports, and communication with all parties.

03Neutrality & Scope

Independent by design.

RiskAxis Solutions is not a public adjusting firm and does not sell insurance. Appraisal and umpire assignments address amount of loss under the applicable policy process. RiskAxis does not provide legal advice, interpret insurance coverage, or render coverage opinions. Coverage and legal questions belong with qualified coverage counsel, the insurer, or the appropriate licensed insurance professional. This page is general education, not legal advice — policy language and state law control.
